Brandon has a competitive chess background, holding a Chess South Africa rating above 1800 and a FIDE rating of approximately 1700. Years of tournament play instilled habits that carry directly into his work: studying a position before committing to it, thinking several moves ahead, and accepting the consequences of every decision made on the board.
Tournament chess also teaches something less comfortable and more useful — that a loss is the most informative thing that can happen, provided it is examined honestly. That expectation, applied to engineering and to governance alike, is part of what FOURIXCORP is built on.
Alongside chess, his interests have long centred on engineering, security research, and the structures by which complex work is done well. Those interests converged in the founding of the institution.
